Yū Mitarai (御手洗 優 Mitarai Yū? ) is a minor character of the manga series Grand Blue. He is a first year Mechanical Engineering student and one of Iori Kitahara's classmates at Izu University.
Appearance[]
Mitarai is a handsome, thin young man of average height with black that has partially blond (possibly dyed) hair and his eyes mostly appears closed.
Personality[]
At first, Mitarai was depicted as a normal college student in the series, but he was later to be known as a playboy as he tries to flirt with many women that he often goes along with the antics of his friend group consisting of Iori Kitahara, Kouhei Imamura, Shinichirou Yamamoto and Hajime Nojima.

- Rie Oohashi: Mitarai's childhood friend and girlfriend, in which his friends immediately attempt to sabotage once they find out and he finds himself beaten up by Rie on multiple occasions through a self-destructive desire to flirt or his friends' machinations. In Episode 8, Mitarai even mentioned that "I'm going to cut those guys out of my life" after an enraged Rie leaves when she hears voices of random females at his apartment, but it is actually Kouhei Imamura imitating random girls to make Rie think that Mitarai is seeing other girls.
Etymology[]
- The name Yuu means "excellence, superiority, gentleness" (優), which is ironic considering on his womanizing personality.
- Yuu's surname Mitarai means "your hand" (御手) (mit) and "wash" (洗) (arai), which can refer to a few things such as a font of purifying water at a shrine entrance.

- Unlike most of the others, Mitarai is in a relationship with his childhood friend Rie Oohashi.
